The first thing anyone would like to know about an app, game, etc. is what is it and what does it do? Golden Axe Classics is an arcade game that allows you to play as one of three different characters. You can play as the Amazon Tyris Flare, the barbarian Gilius Thunderhead, or the dwarf Axe Battler. Each character has their own unique attacks and abilities. The game consists of three different chapters, each with their own unique stages and bosses. You can play through the chapters in any order you like.
The controls of the game are very simple. You have a left joystick to move your character and a right joystick to attacking. There are also four buttons. Two of the buttons are for kicking and the other two are for using your special ability. Your special ability is unique to your character. Tyris Flare can shoot fireballs, Gilius Thunderhead can call forth a lightning bolt, and Axe Battler can spin his axe around him.
The combat in the game is very simple but fun. You will be fighting hordes of enemies at a time. You can combos by pressing the attack buttons in different order. The game does a good job of gradually increasing the difficulty as you progress through the chapters.
One thing to note is that this game is very old. It was originally released in 1989. As such, the graphics and sound are not up to today's standards. But, I think that's part of the charm of this game. It has a very retro feel to it.
Overall, I think Golden Axe Classics is a great game. It's a fun way to kill some time. And, it's free! What more could you ask for?
