The EU Exit: ID Document Check app lets you confirm your identity online, as part of your application to stay in the UK after it leaves the EU.
By using this app, you will not need to send us your identity document by post.
Who can use the app
You must be resident in the UK and either:
• be a European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss national
• have an EEA or Swiss national family member, if you are not a national of a country in the EEA or Switzerland
If you are not an EEA or Swiss national, you must have a UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK) to use this app. If you do not have one, you will need to apply by post instead.
Before you start
You will need:
• your passport or national identity card, if you are an EEA or Swiss national
• your UK issued biometric residence card or permit (provided you are in the UK), if you are not an EEA or Swiss national and have an EEA or Swiss national family member
• a well-lit area, so that you can take a good quality photograph of yourself
If you use a national identity card without a biometric chip, you can still use this app but will need to send us the card by post.
How it works
You will:
1. take an image of your document
2. read the chip in your document using your phone
3. scan your face using your phone
4. take a photograph of yourself for your digital status
What happens next
The app only helps confirm your identity. You must complete the rest of your application online separately. We'll tell you how to complete your application when you finish using the app.
Privacy and security
The app is safe and secure. Your personal information will not be stored in the app or on the phone when you finish using it.

Easy to use with clear, plain English instructions. Verification process took 10 minutes and all features worked well on my phone. NFC scan worked the second time, all else worked on the first try. Not sure why I had to go on the GOV.UK website to answer the questionnaire, it could easily be added to the app and you would not need to use the 2 step verification twice. Response took 2 days, looks like the Home Office really got it together this time, well done.
worked ok, only tricky part was 'scanning' the passport using NFC, U NEED TO MOVE YOUR PHONE A BIT TILL U HEAR A BEEP NOISE than u leave it lying down on your passport. Now important question: anyone knows how long do u need to wait for response to your online application?? ---update---- Day and a half - this is how long i've been waiting for answer to my application, now all i need to do is get my refund for app fee ;)
Works. NFC was a couple of hit and miss, but pretty sure it's not the app to blame, so I can not relate to comments complaining about the app itself. Worked ok through the rest of the registration process, as well. Done the job, pretty sure it's obvious the app takes you to Gov.uk where if any problems you should not complain about the app itself, but the website or your device ;)
The app was really easy to use, it took me 5 min to get it done. As an EU national you'll need Biometric Passport, NINO and previous UK Residence card( if you have one). Then, just follow the steps on the screen and you'll be done shortly. P.S.- When placing your phone on top of the passport (front) just place it and drag it down 1cm for the scan. It worked for me . thanks
Very easy to use. No one in my family had any issues, very quick and easy. Just make sure that there is no glare on your passport and if scanning the chip doesn't work then try to scan the back of the passport (not the front page as shown on the instruction). Very happy that the process is so straight forward
It was very easy to use .thank you.took less than 10 mins and I received my status the next working day.Just wish I could change the photo as I did not know it was going to be used as the profile picture which now appears to be a bad selfie.I used a Sony Xa1.
