What others say about the ViewRanger app

A must have app to use when hillwalking in Scottish Highlands, where there are often no paths, but a lot of fog, rain and poor visibility. Thanks to the app you always know where you are and can't get lost. Maps/squares aren't expensive and very detailed and you can import gpx and create your own routes, which is very useful. I really like recording route feature, if only could mix few activities in one recorded track, so it shows me how much did I do each, ie. 10km bike + 10km walk (unless it is possible, just I don't know how). I can definetely recommend the app.
This app is the perfect companion to traditional route planning and map reading. I've been using viewranger for a while now and have always found it useful. The ability to buy maps by the tile is great and the web route planner is excellent. I've tended to use this for location confirmation as with many route following solutions it's all too easy to spend the day looking down at a screen. This is not a replacement for real map reading skills though! Reliance on GPS in the outdoors is asking for trouble.
Use it for cycling and walking. I tend to use it as a backup for paper maps and it's useful to confirm your exact position if unsure. I don't use many of it's features but the stats can be fun if I remember to start the tracker. Best to download maps in advance as poor data signals make online mapping frustrating. I created premium maps for the Yorkshire Dales and areas around York where I frequently cycle and get a big enough area for £5 credits to be useful without purchasing full maps. I'm happy enough.
This is the best adventure enabling and adventure tracking app! I love how your profile syncs with their servers. It enables you to easily plan routes on the pc then sync to your phone to use out. Doesn't need service to track via gps. Never had any issues. Highly recommend it! But wish it were more known and social! Also wish there was a way to see all tracks I've recorded on the website on the PC! Asking too much? Maybe but you guys can develop that 😉
