Sky Map: Unleash the wonders of the night sky
When you download this app, you'll turn your device into a small planetarium. It has two different functions to explore the skies:
Observation.
Search.
If you select the observation option, you can point your Android device to the sky and see in real time all the stars, nebulae, planets and other heavenly objects that are invisible to the naked eye. You can also activate the sound function to discover what each element is like. The search option allows you to find the desired object, using filters, and point your device to it to locate it.
Wherever you are, use its technology to find the stars, planets, and other heavenly objects that are obscured by light pollution.
The only downside to this application is that there is no tutorial or help section, so you'll have to touch everything to see how it works. But don't worry, it's very intuitive. And best of all, it's totally free.
Troubleshooting/FAQ
The Map doesnt move/points in the wrong place
Make sure you havent switched into manual mode. Does your phone have a compass? If not, Sky Map cannot tell your orientation.
Try calibrating your compass by moving it in a figure of 8 motion or as described here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1EPbAapaeI.
Are there any magnets or metal nearby that might interfere with the compass?
Try switching off magnetic correction (in settings) and see if that is more accurate.
Why is autolocation not supported for my phone?
In Android 6 the way permissions work has changed. You need to enable the location permission setting for Sky Map as described here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6270602?p=app_permissons_m
The Map is jittery
Try adjusting the sensor speed and damping (in settings). We have a better solution coming soon!
Do I need an internet connection?
No, but some functions (like entering your location manually) wont work without one. Youll have to use the GPS or enter a latitude and longitude instead.
